Teen Segment 1 + Behind-the-Wheel
You must be at least 14 years and 8 months old prior to the first day of class. A Segment 1 course consists of 24 hours of classroom instruction, 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction, and 4 hours of observation. Students are given an exam on their last day of segment one and must get a 70 percent or better on the exam to finish the course.
This course is six weeks long in total (three weeks of classroom and three weeks of driving instruction). Students must complete two classroom sessions before beginning any on-road instruction. Driving instruction will be completed within three weeks of the students last classroom session.
For students under 18 years of age, this is the first step taken in order to obtain their license. Students will also need to take a Segment 2 course and a road test to obtain their license. You will need to go to the Secretary of State and obtain a Level 1 Learner's License before you can begin any of your behind-the-wheel driving lessons.
Payment in full is required to register. The remaining balance can be paid however you chose as long as the final payment is received no later than the start time of the first in class session. If the course starts at 3PM, then the balance must be paid prior to that time. Students with any outstanding balance will not be able to schedule driving lessons. If the student still has a remaining balance by the second week of the course, they will be automatically dropped from the course.
